Chris de Burgh
Free concert in aid of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
Held at ASDA in Doncaster, England on the 18th October, 1999.
On a cold and windy October night CdeB performed in one of the strangest settings
yet - the car park at Asda supermarket in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. He might be more
used to large concert halls like the NEC or stately homes but this made no difference to
Chris. After all this concert was in aid of the NSPCC and he has spent countless hours
supporting childrens charities.
A crowd estimated to be about 8,000 strong saw 90 minutes of classic CdeB rock
songs that only the devotees would have expected. This was the Chris of "High on Emotion"
and "Don't Pay the Ferryman", not the more gentle love songs that most people have come to
associate him with. Of course, "The Lady in Red" had to make an appearance but this was
virtually the only time that the tempo slowed down. He said he would warm us up and he
certainly did so!
