Chatsworth compares favourably with any grand house I know. The building itself is magnificent and it contains all sorts of wonderful treasures - furniture, paintings, fresco's - you name it. The gardens and parkland were designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown and remain a credit to his skill. Not that he didn't have plenty of help from nature as the house is situated close under the edge of a natural escarpment in the valley of the River Derwent. |

The Cascade
|
The fountain is the highest natural feed fountain in Europe. All its water comes from an artificial lake in the hills behind the house. | |||||||||||||||||||

| The Revelation is a fairly new water feature that has been added to the grounds. As it fills with water the ball gradually goes back into the "petals". It's facinating to watch. | As with anywhere else in England you can't rely on the weather! | |||||||||||||||||||
