Here and There!

Of course there are many other places in England that are worth a visit, and you mustn't forget Scotland and Wales!

Devon and Cornwall have some dramatic coastlines and the moors can be as beautiful as they are bleak - but I haven't got any photographs of them. If you are interested in the Arthurian legends Tintagel in Cornwall was supposed to be the birthplace of Arthur. There are many other interesting and historic old villages too. Truro Cathedral is one of the most beautiful I know.

If you're visiting from abroad you will probably want to see the famous historic cities. Oxford, Cambridge, York and Stratford are all interesting but remember that you will be competing for space with thousands of other tourists!

The Cotswolds

The area between about Coventry and Oxford is usually known as the Cotswolds. It has a distinct character of its own with impressive stone buildings and beautiful countryside. You will also find Stratford, Warwick and Oxford in this area. Apart from the well known attractions there are many other interesting houses, castles and areas of natural beauty

A typical Cotswold village
Blenheim Palace is situated at Woodstock just outside Oxford. The buildings and gardens are magnificent. The house also contains much Winston Churchill memorabilia.

Bath

A little further to the south west you will find the beautiful city of Bath built on the ancient Roman site of Aqua Sullis. Although Bath is most famous for its spa's and the remains of the Roman bath houses it was a popular resort for the nobility in the 17th and 18th century's. There are many impressive Georgian and Regency buildings to admire.

The remains of the old Roman baths.

They were actually in use until comparatively recently. The wealthy aristocrats used to love to come here to "take the waters". Looking at the colour I don't fancy trying them now, do you?
